Sojiki Nakahagashi..2 Michelin Star foraged meal Kyoto

Our final dinner in Japan, was bittersweet. We went full on for this one and rented kimonos. We met some amazing people at this restaurant including the owner’s son who has worked in NY. Our guest who sat next to us gave us a list of places to see on our next trip, with areas […]Read Post ›

Aragawa, best steak house in the world for past 5 years, 2 Michelin stars, Kobe Japan

Omfg, where do I start? The chilled Chablis was an excellent jumping off point. Very simple presentations here. Nothing to marvel at visually but the flavors were all spot-on. Some simple Caprese salad. Followed by octopus salad. Then, homemade noodles with caviar. Then came the amazing sirloin of Sanda beef. Sanda beef is actually better than Kobe beef. […]Read Post ›

Kikunoi..3 Michelin Star kaiseki Kyoto

This place had the most elegant and romantic ambiance so far with respect to kaiseki restaurants in Kyoto, second only to Kitcho. We met the owner’s daughter, our server spoke some English and was very attentive. They showed us dishes from their cook book as the dinner went on. Our room had a floor to […]Read Post ›

Kichisen.. 3 Michelin star kaiseki Kyoto

Though the food here was excellent, we were a bit disappointed by the quick service and lack of deference/accommodation. Not that we expect all Kaiseki restaurants to have English speaking staff, it just felt rushed, with very little English spoken. It’s not like we were rude or walked in wearing shorts. We were dressed in formal clothes, […]Read Post ›

Kitcho Arashimaya…Kyoto kaiseki 3 Michelin stars

Funny anecdote, on our way to this place, I googled the address and was monitoring to see if driver was taking the correct route as they are very punctual in Japan and will cancel on you if five minutes late. At one point he starts going the total opposite direction. I start showing him my […]Read Post ›

Nagi noodle chain in Tokyo, late night debauchery

Black Miso Ramen with chashu pork, amazing grated sesame with chopped garlic and bean sprout toppings. Totally stuffed our faces after the Robot show in Shinjuku. Not much more to say, the pictures speak for themselves. We hit up an even better ramen place in Kyoto, which I will post later on called Gogyo.

Soba Kanda, oldest soba restaurant in Japan

So we also love cold soba as one of our favorite spots to go in LA at least once a month in Gardena called Otafuku. This place was superb. The buckwheat noodles are packed with health benefits. We love the grainy, nutty smokey aftertaste of buckwheat noodles, they are almost peaty like whiskey. We also […]Read Post ›

Kitchen Nankai…best Kare Katsu in Tokyo

So this katsu pork curry was only $6/plate. I would eat this everyday if I was a student here. I don’t understand why people have Subway and Mac Donald’s when you can have this for this same price. Long line out the door with only locals, you share tables with everyone. The rice was perfectly soft and […]Read Post ›

Ichiyanagi Sushi Ginza.. #8 in all of Tokyo sushi on Tablelog

First up Kasugodai, baby red snapper sashimi, so chewy, but not sinewy, more delicate than adult tai (red snapper) Followed by baby firefly squid, fresh. We’ve had these at a restaurant in LA, and you can just tell they were flash frozen for transport, these have absolutely no fishy taste at all, straight up ocean, […]Read Post ›

Sawada Sushi…2 Michelin Stars

We almost missed this dinner. I realized at 515p that dinner was at 5p not 7p while sorting through vintage transformers. If it wasn’t for Erika’s can do attitude prompting me to go for it, I was almost going to cancel. We ran into the street trying to catch a cab, rushing to one of the highlight […]Read Post ›
